Since Sarah was little, she had always wanted to be a nurse and so she went straight into training after high school. She completed her course in 2007, with a Bachelor of Nursing with Honours from The University of Edinburgh. Her first post was as a staff nurse in neurosurgical theatres in Edinburgh where she fell in love with surgery and the processes involved in delivering such specialised patient care. After 6 years Sarah decided to broaden her nursing experience and moved to Inverness. There, she continued her work within the theatre suite, covering a variety of surgical specialties with focus on orthopaedics and upper GI and colorectal. In 2020 Sarah came back to Edinburgh, and returned to neurosurgery at the newly opened DCN building.
Having worked closely with surgical consultants who are involved in research, both in Inverness and Edinburgh, Sarah knew that she wanted to improve her understanding of what was involved in research nursing, and discovered the world of EMERGE! Here she was fortunate to shadow the Cerebrovascular team and jumped at the chance to be a part of it. Sarah is excited to learn and contribute to the research being carried out and to work with such dedicated staff across the EMERGE team.
